Waterfall Cards

Image
I made two waterfall cards with very different visual flavors. Both are adaptations from one of these tutorials from Mixed Up Craft , but with different proportions so I needed a few prototypes to get all the math right. The first one was for a sakura-themed baby shower. Nearly everything on my friend's registry was already spoken for other than a gift card, so to give that a more personal presentation I made the waterfall card. Here's the final! If you want to see my trial and error, here's the process: The second one was the original goal, but harder to implement because of the dimensions of the cards. This is, however, the more clever card because it was given to a magician, and there's a classic card flourish called a waterfall. So this is a waterfall card made of a waterfall of cards! Final product (minus the outer shell): Prototype plus final:

Illustration pen pal: fossil

Image
My illustration pen pal loaned me another Griffin and Sabine book , and I returned it wrapped in multiple layers of tissue paper so that opening each layer was like digging through the layers of the earth. Outer wrapper (shovel, address, and postage) Organic layer (grass) Topsoil Subsoil Reference -> sketch -> final The book was cleverly hidden under the fossil layer of tissue paper

Tuber Placeholder Gift

Image
I ordered some dahlia tubers for my mom as a birthday gift, but they don't ship until later in the month, so I made a placeholder gift for when we celebrate. On its own, the flowers were a bit top heavy, so I added scraps of cardboard and a ton of hot glue to the bottom to balance it out. Blossoms: shiny origami paper and  this tutorial Stems: green pipe cleaners Pot: half a toilet paper tube covered in construction paper Dirt: a couple chunks of compostable padding that came in my meal kit delivery

Gift Wrapping: Jungle Themed Baby Shower

Image
A friend of mine had a jungle-themed baby shower, and I wrapped the game prizes. Mostly with construction paper.

Gift Wrapping: Sushi Bento

Image
At the first baby shower I ever attended, one of the other guests wrapped a onesie in rubber bands so that it looked like a teeny polar bear with the snaps on the butt flap as eyes. Regular gift wrapping would no longer be good enough, since I had seen what was possible. I needed to up my game.  Now I go through baby registries looking for shapes and inspiration. So for the second baby show I ever attended, I took inspiration from an I Love Sushi bib and wrapped some washcloths and tub toys together like a bento box. All I really needed was dark green ribbon for the nori, some curly pink ribbon for the ginger, and a box just the right size. This may still be my favorite gift wrapping.
